Public Safety Update/Summary of Incidents/Aug 13 – Aug 19, 2012
August 20; 12:15 pm: Public Safety was contacted by a student reporting an unknown
subject had attempted to remove the catalytic converter from his vehicle while parked in
the north lot. CCTV was reviewed with negative results.
August 23; 2:15 pm: Public Safety was contacted by a student regarding harassment that
had occurred twice during the past two days near the A building and Student Union. The
non-student suspect was contacted near campus. He was advised of his inappropriate
comments and told his actions could affect his future student status at the college.
August 23; 9:10 pm: A disorderly conduct incident was documented by Public Safety
Officers regarding a male subject yelling profanities in the Library and knocking aver 3
signs before leaving the campus. While staff searched for the subject it was determined
that Phoenix PD had been called on the subject’s erratic behavior off campus. The subject
was not located.
Other Activities
Two medical incidents were reported to Safety this week. One incident required medical
transport for follow-up treatment/observation.
Two minor non-injury motor vehicle accidents were reported to Public Safety during this
period.

Safety: Safety on our PC Campus is all of our concern and responsibility as involved
community partners. If you see activity that appears suspicious (such as a subject lying
under a vehicle) and/or destructive, call Public Safety to report it: give the location,
type of activity and descriptions of those involved if possible. They may be committing
a crime or just need assistance that we can help with. The Safety Office phone is staffed

Public Safety Update/Summary of Incidents/Aug 13 – Aug 19, 2012

August 13; 11:15 am: An attempted theft of a bicycle locked to the handrail near HC
building was reported by a vigilant staff member. The staff member’s actions prevented
the theft of the expensive bike. The suspect fled on foot. CCTV was checked with
negative results and a report was made.

August 14; 9:13 am-6:50 pm: Public Safety was contacted by staff regarding a
disturbance near the B building. A description of the suspect was obtained and
dispatched. The suspect was contacted in the west parking lot. He continued to be
disruptive and was arrested. Phoenix Police were called and booked the suspect into jail
for disorderly conduct.

Other Activities

One medical incident was reported to Safety this week that did require medical transport
for follow-up treatment/surgery.

No motor vehicle accidents were reported to Safety during this period.

Bike Security: Bicycles should be locked at bike racks only per District Policy.
We have had bikes stolen that were locked using a small cable system. This
system appears to be easy to defeat. I recommend purchasing a steel U-bolt type
lock as a better theft prevention lock. Please keep in mind that all locks can be
defeated so the goal is to make it more difficult. We are working with M&O
to centralize several locations for bike racks and CCTV coverage to facilitate
security. REMEMBER; nothing is theft proof.

Public Safety Update 7-30-12 through 8-5-12

July 26; 12:00 pm: A report was made to Public Safety from Scottsdale CC regarding a
fraud of financial aide at SCC and possibly PC. Research was conducted by officers and
the application was completed on line and appears at this time not to have any physical
link here. The phoenix Police Dept. was contacted by the victim and SCC.
Other Activities

Property Safety: A reminder to all regarding personal property awareness.
People want to be trusting, but unfortunately the “good old days” of leaving your
home unlocked and property unsecured is not safe. Most property crimes are
crimes of opportunity. Please be watchful of your property. Leaving it lay in a
public/semi-public area is providing the opportunity for a would- be thief to take
your property. Yes, even if you “only left it for a couple minutes” while you go to
the restroom. Everyone is usually busy going about their business and may not be
paying attention to your “stuff”. You should not rely on others around you to keep
track of your items unless you know them and specifically ask them to watch it
for you. Just remember your best opportunity to keeping your property is you.
